The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (HBA) is a not-for-profit professional trade association dedicated to promoting, protecting and preserving the homebuilding industry as a viable economic force in the Atlanta area.

The HBA was founded in 1945 by a group of builders looking for an organization to serve their interests and needs within the homebuilding industry. In 1989, the association changed its name from the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Atlanta to the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. The new name reflected the association’s increasing membership and changing climate of the local homebuilding industry.

Today, the HBA is comprised of 10 geographic chapters and eight specialized councils, led by member volunteers and professional staff, which strive to address issues unique to the various professionals within the association. This system promotes member participation and allows them to influence future actions of the HBA. Sixty years and dozens of awards, honors and recognition later, the association continues to thrive and prosper.

The HBA is one of more than 800 local homebuilder associations throughout the U.S. and is affiliated with the Home Builders Association of Georgia and the National Association of Home Builders. With approximately 3,800 members, the HBA is the second largest local homebuilders association in the U.S. and represents the most active residential building market in the country for the last 14 consecutive years.

Builder members range from large companies to individual contractors and include developers, custom and speculative builders, multifamily builders, manufactured housing companies, residential remodelers and general contractors.

Membership in the association is not limited to builders; members represent an array of housing-related businesses and industries including trade contractors; building materials manufacturers, suppliers and distributors; lending institutions; real estate companies; utilities; surveyors; title companies; attorneys; accountants; engineers; architects; designers and more.

The official charity of the HBA is HomeAid Atlanta, a non-profit organization dedicated to building and renovating shelters for temporarily homeless children, women and men in the Atlanta area. The HomeAid Atlanta chapter has been active at the HBA since 2000.
